Lagu Ikan, A Children Song Project

“Lagu Ikan” or “Fish Song” is an experimental project that I made in 2012. I created a song about my childhood experience when I had a pet fish. This project collaborated with Etza Meisyara, a new media artist, as music arranger. The final form of this project is a song and a documentary video.
These days I rarely heard or seen children songs on television shows in Indonesia. It is really different from my childhood days. The kids now are not singing about their experience at school, learn how to read, describing the beautiful flowers at the backyard, and so on. The songs I heard now is all about love and crush at school. That is not a problem because the singers all teenagers and it is their true experience, but the audiences are all children from toddlers to teenagers. We can imagine how the 5 years old little boy who actually in the learning phase about things around him should consume the same things as the teenagers. The first thing pop in my mind is to create a song for children.
This project took place at a kindergarten that I went into in my childhood, TK Aryandini Bandung. It took three weeks to teach the kids about the song. At the first week I taught them the song lyrics. The next week I taught them the dance moves with help from the teachers. On the third week I started to record their voices.
The final form of this project is a documentation video and a recorded song which final mixing process done by Etza Meisyara.
